ABSTRACT

THE BIOCHEMISTRY BEHIND COVID-19: WEBQUEST DEVELOPMENT AND APPLICATION FOR EMERGENCY REMOTE TEACHING. WebQuests are inquiry-oriented activities structured in such a way that almost all resources used come from the web. The present study aims to investigate to what extent a WebQuest focusing on Biochemistry and COVID-19 can be used as an instructive tool to enhance undergraduate students' media and information literacy (MIL). Students' opinions on the use of the WebQuest were also discussed. The WebQuest was implemented in a BSc in Physical and Biomolecular Sciences course in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Based on the results of this study, the WebQuest has improved the MIL competence of students and motivated them towards learning Biochemistry.

ABSTRACT

In this text, we analyze from a Materialist Discourse Analysis perspective of Discourse Analysis of Pecheuxtian based, discursive practices representing knowledge and interests of economically privileged social classes in social formations organized from the capitalist mode of production, whose basis is the exploitation of labor. The proposal is to think about the class struggle in the context of the health crisis in Brazil, based on the understanding that the pandemic was/is experienced differently by each social class. Thus, we seek to understand how this part of society attributes meaningto the health crisis and what effects emerge from these discourses that oppose the interests of other classes, with regard to protection against the health risks of Covid-19 for the Brazilian population. This analytical gesture, brings a cut of four discursive sequences that we consider representative of a discursive formation in which an ideological formation underlies. Therefore, thiswork presents a discussion on the intertwining between class issues, human dignity and right to health, with the interest of reflecting on the nexus between ideology and discourse, paying attention to the relations of inequality/subordination and invisibility of vulnerable social classes, sharpened in this scenario.

ABSTRACT

There is little reflection on emotions in studies carried out in the areas of education, learning, and teaching (Zembylas, 2006), given that modernity/coloniality denies them as part of knowledge construction. In this text, I highlight the period of school closures due to covid-19. I aim to analyze teachers' narratives about the unfolding of Covid-19, focusing on the emotions described in dialogue with decolonial studies. In this narrative research with a qualitative approach, narratives are analyzed based on connection strategies. Finally, the results indicate relationships between emotions, modern/colonial notions, and effects of the pandemic.

ABSTRACT

This research focuses on e-learning and its specific evolution applied to Basic and Secondary Education, taking into account new technological approaches, as evidenced by the marketing of school publishers in Portugal. Marketing strategies depend on educational complexity, and this research explores the possible impulse to promote e-learning in such environment. The research methodology focuses on the needs and motivations for a conceptual framework, including the development of e-learning supply processes, demand formation, and the interaction between supply and demand, which can be enhanced with appropriate public policies. The results of qualitative interpretations confirmed that beliefs about e-learning are generally influenced by most previous implementation processes and are still generally considered an unsurpassed failure. However, the evidence is modified by the new data on the impact that COVID-19 has on the entire educational organization process, specifically on technological dissemination and innovation. Price or free access and training offers forms the basis for the "mise en valeur" while marketing emphases the values of generosity, empathy and sharing of emotions. © Proceedings of the International Conference on E-Learning 2022, EL 2022 - Part of the Multi Conference on Computer Science and Information Systems 2022, MCCSIS 2022. ABSTRACT

Objective: To evaluate alcohol consumption among state public elementary school teachers before and during the COVID-19 pandemic and the factors associated with who increased their alcohol consumption during the pandemic. Methods: Websurvey-type epidemiological survey, carried out with primary education teachers from public schools in Minas Gerais. A probabilistic sample with proportionality for state teachers was estimated. The collection took place from August to September 2020 via digital form and had the support of the State Department of Education. The dependent variable adopted was the increase in the consumption of alcoholic beverages by teachers during the pandemic. Poisson Regression was used, adopting a significance level of 5%. Results: 15,641 teachers from 795 Minas Gerais municipalities participated in the study. Regarding the consumption of alcoholic beverages, before the pandemic 46.9% of teachers consumed at least once a week and during the pandemic 7.1% reported that they were drinking more than they used to. Higher consumption of alcoholic beverages was observed during the pandemic among men, with a lower age group, higher family income, those who had great difficulty to carry out school activities, those dissatisfied with work, those who started having sleep problems and in those where a family member or friend developed symptoms serious problems of COVID-19. Conclusions: The results showed that most participants maintained their consumption or decreased it during the pandemic. This increase was associated with sociodemographic and economic factors, working conditions during the pandemic, behaviors/life habits and health conditions.

ABSTRACT

This study aimed to describe the working and health conditions of physical education teachers in public basic education in the state of Minas Gerais - Brazil during the COVID-19 pandemic. Cross-sectional study, carried out from August to September 2020, via digital form and had the support of the Minas Gerais State Department of Education. The instrument presented variables related to the sociodemographic profile, work and health conditions during the pandemic. The prevalences of the variables were presented. 1,016 physical education teachers participated in the study. Of these, 61.4% were female, 65.8% aged 21 to 40 years and 15.3% worked in the countryside. In relation to working conditions during the pandemic, 99% performed remote activities, 35.7% were dissatisfied with their work, 37% worked much more than they used to and 81.2% presented the interest of students/parents in classes as a difficulty. As for health conditions during the pandemic, 10.3% increased their consumption of alcoholic beverages, 26.1% did not practice physical exercise, 56.5% had increased body weight and 37.8% reported a lot of fear of COVID-19. Physical education teachers of basic education in the state of Minas Gerais were significantly affected by the pandemic, so it is important to implement support strategies. © 2022 Universidade Estadual de Maringa.
